Hosted by Eastern Mediterranean University, “TRNC International Chorus Festival” which took place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center between 9 and 14 July 2014 brought together 550 chorists from TRNC, the Republic of Turkey and Germany.
Among 19 notable choirs which took part in the festival were Bolu Fine Arts High School Choir, Bursa Municipality DND Youth Choir, Çanakkale On Sekiz Mart University Konrul Vokal Ensemble, Eastern Mediterranean University Ada Işığı Children’s Choir, Eastern Mediterranean University Education Faculty GSEB Music Teaching Choir, Gazi University Education Faculty GSEB Music Teaching ABD Undergraduate 4 Choir, Karadeniz Technical University Education Faculty GSEB Music Teaching ABD Choir, Karşıyaka Municipality Choir, Marmara University Atatürk Education Faculty GSEB Music Teaching ABD Choir, Mehmet Akif Ersoy UniversityChoir, Mersin Choir, Mersin Nevit Kodallı Adults’ Choir, Cyprus Polyphonic Choirs Association, Othello Choir, Pamukkale University Multi-Voice Chorus, Samsun First Step Fine Arts High School Multi-Voice Chorus, Ses Ver Sus Vocal Band, Turkish Polyphonic Choirs Association Children’s Choir, Zonguldak Erdemir Fine Arts High School Choir and world famous German choir named Str8Voices.
World Diving Champion Delivered a Seminar in EMU
Within the framework of the festival, world diving champion Devrim Cenk Ulusoy held a seminar entitled “The Power of Correct Breathing and Breath in Singing” at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center on 11 July 2014. At the end of the seminar, EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Derviş Ekşici presented a plaque to Ulusoy.
Bi-communal Choir Performed in EMU
As part of the festival, on 12 July 2014, ‘Bi-communal Choir’ amazed the audience with their songs. At the end of the performance, EMU Public Relations and Press Office Director Derviş Ekşici presented a lefkara lace gift to Turkish Cypriot Chorus conductor Kürşat Tilki and Greek Cypriot Chorus Lena Melanidou.
Str8Voives in EMU
World-famous German Str8voices group who visited EMU to take part in the festival’s gala night amazed the audience with their concert on 12 July 2014. At the end of their performance, Vice Rector for Promotion and Development Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri presented the group a plaque of appreciation. Prior to the concert, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak presented awards to 18 Mart Çanakkale University Konrul Vocal Ensemble Chorus Conductor Mete Gökçe and State Symphony Orchestra Artist Oskay Hoca.
